Year 11 Prom Update

Dear Parents/Carers and Year 11 students,

I know that many of you have been looking forward to our annual Year 11 Prom and over recent weeks have queried whether it would take place or not. You will be aware from a notice placed on our website and Facebook and Twitter pages in and around our Easter holidays that at that stage the Grand Central were still hoping that our Prom would take place on the date originally agreed.

As time went on and the situation with respects to lock down and it restrictions remained we had concerns as to how viable this would be, if indeed at all possible. Once the guidance concerning lock down was amended and we moved from ‘staying at home’ to ‘remaining alert’, we again approached the Grand Central with the intention that we would agree a change of date.

With the support of the Grand Central we have agreed a new date for our Year 11 Prom. This is February 19th, 2021, which is the last day of February half term. We are pleased that we have been able to do so for the following reasons:

  • Our Year 11 students will still be able to have their prom and come together to celebrate their successes and achievements
  • We will be able to do so at a point and time when hopefully it will be safe to do with respect to mixing in larger crowds
  • The expense that no doubt you as families will have gone to already in purchasing those all important gowns and suits will not have gone to waste

We understand that at this point many of our students will have moved on to new educational establishments, training courses, apprenticeships or work. However,  it is important that our current Year 11 students, who were still studying with us at the time of lock down, will be able to join us regardless of their place of work, training or study by the time we celebrate Prom on February 19th 2021.

Once we are fully back at school, we will return to the arrangements for our Prom and will contact our current Year 11 students via letter and social media informing you as Parents/Carers and you as our students,  of next steps re purchasing and paying for tickets, times, dress code and all other practicalities.

We appreciate that this does seem so very far away and that you will no doubt be disappointed that we cannot celebrate now as we had hoped. However, I hope you understand our reasons for agreeing to and securing this new date and will join us to celebrate all we have communally achieved.

Thank you for your understanding,

Mrs Bowen.
