The Guardian Foundation at St Thomas More Catholic School

St Thomas More Catholic School have been fortunate enough to be one of the chosen schools who applied to The Guardian Foundation for the Media Literacy Training. In our rapidly developing online world, possessing Media Literacy may not be explicitly part of the KS3 and KS4 curriculum but it is relevant to all subjects and the lives of our young people.

Margaret Holbourn, Head of Secondary and Higher Education at The Guardian Foundation, trained 20 of our Students as Literacy Media Ambassadors yesterday. She also trained a selection of staff across school in Media Literacy including: Teaching Assistants, RE Teachers, English Teachers, Early Career Teachers and Heads of Year.

Year 12 and Year 13 students are now qualified Media Literacy Ambassadors for our school and will be cascading training to Year 8 students before Christmas.

We are very proud of the engagement of our young people across the training yesterday, Margaret Holbourn was so taken with the work in school she contacted to say:

“I had an amazing time today – the students were brilliant, so engaged and with such superb critical analysis skills as well as brilliant team work and communication skills. A massive thank you to all for being so supportive, organised and so welcoming. Thank you for all your hard work in making it such a great day all round”.

We are excited for the future collaborations with The Guardian Foundation and our school.
