Dear Parents and Carers,
All schools have been asked to comply with statutory regulations with regards to the delivery of SRE (Sex Relationship Education) as of September 2020. Given the sensitive nature of some of the matters and issues to be delivered, as a school, lengthy consideration and reflection was given as to the best way in which to do so. After due consideration and in keeping with the fact that as a Catholic School it is imperative that both the materials and the manner used to deliver these to our children is in complete concordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church, we have decided to do so using RE curriculum time. By doing so we can be confident that our children will be guided through the different topics, issues and materials used in a sensitive, discreet and appropriate manner which will be both supportive and cognisant of the ethos of our school community and the teachings of our faith regarding ethical matters and issues of morality.
Prior to amending our schemes of learning to accommodate this directive, both myself and the then Head of RE attended training delivered via our Diocesan Advisory Team. This training was then disseminated and delivered to colleagues within the RE Department. To ensure that the lessons to be delivered, the materials selected to do so and the overall structure of the appropriate elements of our schemes of learning is fit for purpose, we have decided to utilise the resources available from Ten Ten. Ten Ten is an educational theatre company who have actively delivered materials in parishes, Catholic schools, Sixth Forms and youth clubs across the country and have come highly recommended by the Archdiocese of Birmingham.
Our delivery will include all Key Stages and will carry its own discreet curriculum time within RE. Consequently, this very important element of our students personal, social, emotional, moral and spiritual development will be afforded the time it richly deserves.
