On Thursday 16th January a group of students visited New Cross Hospital for the AHP – Is it for me? Careers event. The focus of the all day visit was for students from Years 10-13 to find out more about what a career as an allied health professional really means. In addition to this, information about applying for courses, what life in the role is really like, and career options post qualification were also discussed.
The day was split into nine 30 minute detailed workshops. Each individual session was delivered by medical professionals currently working within the Trust. Students engaged in presentations and hands-on interactive sessions on Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Operating Department Practitioners, Orthoptists, Orthotics, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, and Radiology. The programme covered nine out of the fourteen AHP professions and was jam packed with information to help students explore the less obvious NHS careers.
