On Monday 30th September, Kaviyan in 10O was invited to attend a special training session with England Cricket Captain Joe Root. The session which took place at the Walsall Campus of Wolverhampton University saw a selection of students from across the West Midlands take part in training with one of the world’s best players.
Kaviyan was selected for the event after a superb season for Walsall Cricket Club where he plays as a wrist spin bowler. His excellent play caught the attention of the university staff who invited him to receive the coaching from England Captain Root who said “I really enjoy the relationship I have with the university. I love the opportunity to create an environment and work with the local community as well as the students”.
The event was featured on BBC One where viewers were given an insight into the day’s events, culminating in Joe Root being honoured with an honorary doctorate from the university.
We are immensely proud of Kaviyan’s cricketing achievements and considering England’s search for a good spin bowler in recent years, who knows how long it will be before we see Kaviyan walking out for an international alongside Joe Root himself?!
Well done Kaviyan.
