Harry Potter casts a spell over Year 7

As part of our ongoing drive to encourage students to engage with reading, our new Year 7 students were set the task of reading ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ over the Summer holiday. The students were gifted the text on their Induction Day as well as being provided with a workbook to reflect on their reading. Students were then encouraged to bring this back on their first day at St Thomas More to impress their new Form Tutors.

The response has been phenomenal and the standard of work has been extremely high, which is testament to the preparation that the students have received from our Primary feeder schools. Form Tutors had a very difficult time deciding the winner in each form who will each receive a £10 shopping voucher for their efforts.

After much deliberation, the winning students were: Amanda (7O), Amber (7D), Bandeena (7S), Justina (7E), Samuel (7R), Jenika (7V), Phoebe (7A) and Skye (7N).

The work of our students will now be used in a showcase for our visiting Year 6 students on Open Evening to display just how well they have done.

A huge well done to every student who completed the reading and presented their workbook. It has been a real pleasure to see the endeavour that has been shown and we hope this is just a launch pad into a love for reading during their time at St Thomas More.
