Examination procedures

It is the aim of St Thomas More School to make the examination experience as stress-free and successful as possible for all candidates.

Hopefully, these web pages will prove informative and helpful for you. Please also be aware of the examination regulations and the procedures.

The awarding bodies (or examination boards) set down strict criteria which must be followed for the conduct of examinations, coursework and controlled assessments, St Thomas More School is required to follow them precisely.  The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) produces several information notices which students are required to have made available to them in advance of exams.  These are all printed on the following pages.

Some of the questions you may have are answered in our Examinations FAQ.  If there is anything you do not understand or any question that has not been addressed, please ask.

If you or your parents have any queries or need help or advice at any time before, during or after the examinations please contact:
The Examinations Officer – Mrs Dawson (in the Exams Office – G84)

Remember – we are here to help.

Summer 2023 results days

  • A Level & Level 3 Vocational Results Day: Thursday 17 August 2023
  • GCSE & Level 1/2 Vocational Results Day: Thursday 24 August 2023

The school building will be open for students to collect their results from 8.30am – 12pm. (After this time, results will be left on Reception for students to collect during school opening hours). Staff will be on hand during these times to assist with any queries. Please come through Reception and to the Assembly Hall.

If students are unable to attend school during these times, they should contact Mrs L Dawson – Exams Officer as soon as possible to discuss alternative ways to collect results. If students are not able to collect their results personally, we will need written confirmation from the student to give authority for someone to collect results on their behalf.

GCSE – If students have a 6th form appointment, we kindly ask that you stick to the time you have been allocated.
