Dear Parents and Carers / Guardians,
I am writing to invite parents, guardians and carers of registered pupils to put their names forward for election to serve as parent governors of this school. There is currently 1 vacancy.
The role of the parent governor:
As a parent governor, you will work with the governing body to ensure the board carries out its duties effectively to ensure children in the school get the best education possible.
The governing body, with the headteacher, has overall responsibility for the running of the school. Governing bodies have three core strategic functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
The governing board is keen for candidates to have the skills in the following:
- Verbal and written communication;
- Punctuality in meeting deadlines and arrival to meetings;
- Discretion given the sensitive and confidential nature of the information discussed;
- Commitment to attending scheduled meetings;
- Willingness to participate in evening school events e.g. Student Voice, Year Group meetings, subject Link meetings;
- Commitment to the unique ethos of our school as a faith community.
Training is available for all governors and the expectation is that all new governors attend the governor’s induction course.
All parents over the age of 18 are eligible to stand for election and to vote with the exception of parents/ carers who are elected members of Walsall Council; employed to work at the school for more than 500 hours in an academic year or are ineligible as summarised in the list overleaf.
If you would like to put your name forward, please complete and return the tear-off slip in the download below by Friday 3rd March 2023. Please also include a short personal statement to support your nomination. It may be that you would wish to propose another parent to serve as a parent governor, please seek their prior consent with them before making the nomination.
If there are more nominations than vacancies, it will be necessary for there to be a secret ballot, and I will provide further details of the arrangements. Voting papers will be sent to all parents together with details of the procedure.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs S. Bowen
