Subject supports the whole school curriculum intent statement by ensuring:

Students in KS5: A qualification in accounting will always be helpful – whether it’s used professionally or personally. This course helps students to understand the responsibilities of the accountant and the impacts of their recommendations on the business and the wider environment.  Students will build knowledge and understanding of key concepts, principles and techniques that they can apply to real-life scenarios, developing the ability to solve problems logically, analyse data methodically, make reasoned choices and communicate effectively.

Wherever possible the department utilises the expertise of a wide range of external business partners to provide real-life examples of business practice. We have taken students to universities to experience Accounting taster sessions and competed in the CIPFA Sixth Form Games which is a regional competition where students are supported to find solutions to problems within an accounting context.

Possible areas of future study:

There are a wide range of courses which can be pursued with a Business qualification.  Common course options include: accounting, business administration, business analysis, business computing, business ethics, business statistics, commercial law, developing markets, economic principles, finance, human resources, international studies, management, marketing, operations management, research and technology

Wider reading around different topic areas is strongly encouraged to develop a greater sense of accountancy topics.  Students are given a textbook at the start of the course to work from, there are a wide range of books that can support thr qualification. The AQA website (https://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/accounting/a-level/accounting-7127) has a lot of information for the course offered in school. This is a very useful, free resource.
