We can “fully discover our true selves only in sincere self-giving.” (Vatican II)

This week we are called to reflect upon the call to serve other people. We do this in many different ways, perhaps through raising money, sharing food, listening, visiting the sick, volunteering and in many other ways we could list. When we serve others, in whatever way we do it, we are not only giving something of ourselves but becoming more fully ourselves.

Father, we pray for all those who have devoted their lives to the service of others; the sick, the lonely, the outcasts, those often despised by the rest of society.

May they gain strength from recognising that it is Your work they do.

May they also be confident of the prayers and support of us Your people. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
