‘In the evening of our lives we shall be examined on love’ (St John of the Cross)

This week we are invited to reflect on the theme of kingship (Sunday was the feast of Christ the King). Yet, in this case a kingship that is not concerned with power and influence, things we usually associate with kingship, but rather of service. Vatican II reminded us that it is in, ‘giving that we discover and become who we really are’.

Lord, what shall I tell you? I saw you in the lonely person looking for friendship. It was you who called to me!

I saw you in the nurses working in Syria who had given their life to care for those who suffer... it was you who disturbed me!

Lord, I see you in the faces of the poor, the weak, the socially isolated, the grieving; help me to respond to your call.
