Behind the Scenes: The Wizard of Oz

Rehearsals are well underway for this year’s school show and we cannot wait to share the finished product! Since March rehearsals have been taking place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and a number of students and staff have been singing, dancing, painting, choreographing and line learning ready to perform this year’s production of ‘The Wizard of Oz!’ This year has been a truly in-house project with costumes and set being made all within school. This year we have manage to secure a real life Toto from Animal Evalution – Bespoke Animal Training and we cannot wait for Toto to arrive and work alongside our students.

Since beginning rehearsals students have continued to amaze and impress with their dedication, focus and maturity during our rehearsal process. Of course, rehearsing the final product will be a constantly evolving process until the first show when the lights come up on the opening night.

As director of this show and our two previous shows (Hairspray and Beauty and The Beast) along with Mr Jelfs, Miss Carr and Mrs Edwards we always look forward to the first performance as the students reflect on their hard work and hours of rehearsals! It is always something that students treasure and as soon as the lights come down on the final performance we begin asking ourselves ‘How do we beat that?!’ It is a feeling that is hard to explain and is a bitter-sweet moment as it gives us all time to rest but time to get our thinking caps on for the following year!

We are going to be spending the next two weeks (including Saturday) polishing the final product before performing to our feeder primary schools and then three back to back shows which are sure to be a sell out!

Tickets are still on sale from Reception priced at £6.00 for adults and £3.50 for concessions.

I hope to see many of you there for what should be another great evening of entertainment!
