Our Easter services were a beautiful celebration of this most Holy time of year. Whilst Easter is a time to remember Christ’s resurrection and our salvation, the service also considered His suffering and the suffering of others in the world today. The philosopher C.S. Lewis said that ‘in suffering God’s voice booms’ and we hear Him most clearly. I am so proud of our students who have raised money for their Lenten year charities and for their prayers for those who suffer; through prayer and faith in action St Thomas More Catholic School seeks to do His work. I would also like to thank all who participated in our service leading prayers and reflection, singing, dancing and playing musical instruments, we have some very talented students here and I am proud of each and every one.
Thank you to the teachers who worked hard to prepare our students for the service, and to the staff in general for their hard work and support of our students through what has been a very long but successful term.
Year 11 and Sixth Form
There is a programme of revision and catch-up sessions which have been arranged for all of those who are sitting exams this year. In addition to the letter which year 11 have received about these sessions there is further information in this addition of More News and on the website. It is vital that students attend any sessions which have been arranged to help them. There is a lot of additional revision material and activities on Show my Homework - please check it!
Year 11 Maths
Whilst our results are continuing to improve, I would like to say an extra big ‘well done’ to all of our Year 11 students who are working very hard to improve their maths results; the latest results are even better than the last! On our return to school some students will be taking maths for the whole of week one or the whole of week two. In order to secure a grade 5. We have got other plans and interventions for all of our students too.
Holidays in school time
On Thursday the parent who was fined for taking his children on school holiday during school time lost his appeal. I would reiterate that every lesson counts and that we need to do whatever we reasonably can do to ensure that attendance is as close to 100% as is reasonably possible; students cannot learn if they are not in school. I appreciate the good job that our parents do in supporting our students getting into school each day. Our attendance is continuing to improve, thank you!
