Two ‘good’ inspections in one year

I hope you are as delighted as we are with our second ‘good’ inspection in a year! Last week I sent out the full diocesan report for you to read; it was extremely complimentary and praised our exemplary behaviour, spiritual development and Catholicity. The standard of teaching in RE was mostly good and outstanding, I am delighted that the department have increased their results to 65% A* to C.

Results in 2016

Our GCSE results this year increased our progress 8 score, there were some excellent performances including English (77%), German (81%) Media (83%) and DT (RM) 91%. The new measures are focussed on progress and I will write to you again to explain how these work. The changes from grades to numbers in GCSEs starts in Maths and English in this year’s Year 11 and then affects all GCSEs from Year 10 onwards.

Our A levels improved the average grade and points per entry, and some of the results were outstanding including Geography which was in the top 1% nationally. In Public Services, English, Performing Arts, Sociology, Media, Business Studies, History, Psychology all, or almost all students, achieved A* to C at A level.

There were some amazing student performances at both GCSE and A level where results were entirely A* and A. Very well done to all our staff, students and families for your support!

Period 6

I am delighted with the attitude and behaviour of Year 11 and sixth form who have really made the most of these classes. Our staff have chosen to stay for another hour and prepare and mark extra work for you because they really care about you getting the best results possible. Rather like Team GB, we are a team at St Thomas More and our training for the very best outcomes starts now, if we work hard consistently and support each other we will achieve our ‘personal bests’!

Year 11 have their own outside dining facility and we have got the bistro for sixth form and hope to develop an additional facility very soon. We are also planning the best proms ever, we want to work with and reward our students for their hard work. The hot chocolate Year 11 asked for will be available very soon!

Thank you to Ray Dale from National Express and all our parents for working with us to make suitable transport arrangements for period 6.

Show My Homework

We will continue to use Show My Homework during the current academic year. All staff will upload homework set on to this application which is accessible by students and parents. You can gain access to this application on any phone, tablet or computer. This means that you can access all homework set by teachers at home or anywhere that has an internet connection. If you have any problems with access please contact Mr Jones in school.
