Football team

On Wednesday 20th May, St Thomas More Catholic School took a Year 9 Boys/Girls Team to compete in the Team Sixteen Football Tournament. On this particular day, St Georges Park was host to the England Ladies Football Team, preparing for the World Cup – and they were visited by Prince William to wish them luck!

We had a tour of the park in the morning; looking around the grounds & pitches & meeting some of the England Ladies Football Team. In the afternoon we competed in the Football Tournament against other schools.

The Boys Team played Sandwell Academy (3-2 Win), CTC Kingshurst Academy (1-1 Draw) and Campion School (1-0 Loss.) From this the boys progressed into the Semi-Finals where they played Tudor Grange and lost 2-1 in the last second of the match!

Players: Joe Baker (Captain), Jacob McCalla, Joel Waite, Brad Horsley, Fletcher Law-Baker, Tom Kennedy & Tom Edwards.

The Girls Team played Sandwell Academy (3-1 Loss), Tudor Grange (1-1 Draw) and Shireland Academy (5-0 Win.) They also progressed into the Semi-Finals to play Bishop Challenor, with 0-0 at the end of the match; the girls had to take it to penalties. Our Goalie Jaskiran Chahal saved all the shots and Seanna & Megan scored theirs to give us the win.

The girls then had to play CTC Kingshurst Academy in the finals; winning 1-0 led by our Top Goal Scorer, Seanna McCann. A brilliant win for the STM Girls!

Players: Seanna McCann (Captain), Courtney Dilger, Megan Tolley, Ellie Murphy, Olivia Matthews & Jaskiran Chahal.
