Welcome from the head

May 2017

Dear Parent/Carer

I would like to introduce myself to you as Headteacher of St.Thomas More Catholic School and to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to the school.

As Headteacher, I have grown to know and love this vibrant and caring school community.

Although very proud of our most recent judgement as “Good”, we do not seek to serve Ofsted, or league tables, rather we aim to support the children who attend our school and help them develop their relationship with God, their relationships with other people and to provide them with an excellent education.

From my experience as a school leader, I know that success in the larger things – relationships, sporting achievement, extra-curricular activities, and lessons is formed by concentrating on the smaller things, such as manners, punctuality and appearance. I am aware that at times our school may appear to be concentrating too much on issues, however, without these ‘small things’ in place, the larger (and seemingly more important) will not follow.

So I would ask you to work with us, informing your child’s tutor of any issues we need to know about promptly, and supporting us by abiding by our school rules especially those applying to appearance, attendance, punctuality and being prepared for school and for lessons. As a parent, and an experienced teacher, I know at times this can be difficult, however, please be aware that if your child claims “that everyone else is allowed”, to break the rules, this will not be the case.

Please continue also to support your child’s education by attending Parents’ Evenings, and other events in school, our on line school newsletter MN – (More News) or MyEd (online school app) and other documentation posted by school.

I am aware of how precious your child is and I assure you that St Thomas More Catholic School is truly a place where each child is known and valued as an individual. This level of pastoral care, which is, excellent, is only possible through the commitment of the experienced and caring staff and through the support we, as a school, receive from you. In partnership we can achieve anything.

I look forward to meeting you in the coming weeks.

Yours faithfully

Dr Sarah Hatfield

Headteacher

Downloads and other important information

Please be aware that there is no nurse available at the school. The school provides emergency first aid to staff, visitors and students for incidents that happen whilst at school. This provision does not extend to dealing with incidents which happen outside of school (e.g. accidents which happen at home).

Painkillers and medication

First aiders cannot administer painkillers or other medication unless these have been prescribed. They must be submitted to the school in their original, labelled packaging along with dosage instructions and a completed school medication form.

Student illness whilst at school

Should your child become ill whilst at school a member of staff will contact you if necessary. It is important that students alert a member of staff if they are unwell, and do not attempt to make contact with parents directly. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details. Thank you for your support.
