Petty Officers George Sanders and John Swift from the Royal Navy Engagement Team in Plymouth visited St Thomas More Catholic School for the whole day on Tuesday 1st November. The serving officers engaged in presentations and workshops for students in Years 9 to 13.
As well as presenting in the Assembly Hall, the visitors also engaged with Key Stage 5 students and held a question and answer session within the Bistro. This gave students the opportunity of a one to one conversation with the officers.
At the end of the day the officers held a workshop with a smaller cohort of Year 10 and 11 students. The officers have accumulated more than thirty years of experience with the Royal Navy and shared their vast wealth of knowledge when students asked suitably prepared questions.
Overall, it was a very successful day for the students who were informed about the seventy job roles available within The Royal Navy and the twenty-three specialist posts available within The Royal Marines.
The officers explained in detail the qualifications required to join these organisations and the pathways available to students, including ongoing education whilst continuing within either service.
