Petty Officer Gavin Brown, a chef in the Royal Navy, came into school on the afternoons of Tuesday 21st June and Thursday 23rd June and made use of the school’s teaching kitchen facilities to carry out demonstrations of a small range of basic dishes.
The emphasis was on handling basic fresh ingredients, delivering an understanding of nutrition and how important they are in the development of physical and mental performance of not only members of the armed forces, but of any individual who desires to achieve results in their chosen field.
During the presentations additional information was offered in relation to service lifestyle, sports and adventurous training, and career opportunities in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. The 24 hour ration pack was also demonstrated to show how the Royal Marines use it in the field. The demonstrations lasted an hour and were a hugely enjoyable experience for the Year 9 and 10 students involved. The students showed nothing other than an enthusiastic response!
