Of what good is the word of Christ without an example’ (Dostoyevsky)
This week we celebrated the feast days of St Thomas More and St John Fisher and this next week the feast of Saints Peter and Paul. They are important figures in the Church (Peter is often described as the first pope) and influenced the way that it developed. They also had to face hardship and are all examples of people who had the courage to stand up for what they knew to be right.
Give us courage, Lord, to stand up and be counted,
to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves,
to stand up for ourselves when it is time to do so.
Let us love nothing more than we love You.
May we put nothing before You,
be it our popularity, money, fame, friends or country.
May we seek no other peace, but the peace that is Yours,
and Lord, make us instruments of that peace.
Open our hearts, ears and eyes, such that
we will always know how to make Your peace
present in our school and homes.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
