Advent calls us to wake up, to arise from our sleep. To shake off the dust of routine, habit, custom... and let Christ come alive once more in our lives.'
In this season of Advent the Christian community is preparing for the celebration of Christmas. Just like with any great event or occasion in our lives the right sort of preparation is important if we are to gain, or experience the best of it.
Luke 3 : 2-6
It is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: A voice of one crying out in the desert: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'
Father, help each one of us to prepare well for this coming Christmas. To think beyond the things that we look forward to for ourselves to include the wishes and needs of others. Help us to grow in appreciation of the meaning of Christmas; to both receive and share your love, revealed in Jesus, with others. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
